7 pm at Meadowbrook
Brainstorming about ART at Annie's playground! Our special guest
this month was local tile artist Steve Roache. Steve has created
many wonderful works of art in the Seattle area, including the BF
Day School tile wall on Fremont Blvd., the square by the Lenin statue
in Fremont, the Greenwood PCC wall, and the walkway in the Jr. League
Playground at Magnuson Sand Point. Steve presented ideas for unique
art elements for Annie's Playground.

Meadowbrook Community Center
This meeting was to decide what the final playground will actually
look like! We looked at the most recent 3-D drawings of the Landscape
Structures play equipment, and made decisions about the color scheme.
Jan Satterthwaite, a professional artist and landscape designer/architect,
brought some samples of her work, and presented some sketches and
thoughts about her ideas for the playground. Everyone says that
this is the fun part!
The
latest architectural drawings have been posted here,
so check them out!

February
20th
We
wanted to give you all a playground project update after last Thursday's
design meeting, led by our Seattle Parks' landscape architects Randy
Robinson and Kim Baldwin. Randy announced that the playground footprint
will be changed so that it does not extend within the 50 ft. creek
buffer zone. The playground will extend a bit further to the south
and east, so that it will not lose much more than 5% of its current
size. By avoiding the legal riparian zone, land-use negotiations
with Seattle Schools (the property owner) should proceed in due
course.
Most
of the meeting was spent discussing the organization of the main
play areas within the playground: older kids swings and climber,
young kids swings and climber, seating area, and covered picnic
area. Randy and Kim took down our ideas and will work on a draft
design. Randy's e-mail is randy.robinson@seattle.gov.

We hope those of you who attended the auction had a fun and
memorable evening! Over 225 people came to the event, and the proceeds
added up to over $14,000! We are very happy that so many people
came out that night, and it seemed like everyone had a good time
(including kids). We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped
make the event a success -- it could never have happened without
you!
