Friends of Annie's Playground (FAP) Meeting
Monday, January 6, 2003
7:00 PM at the Community Center
The
theme for Annie's playground is going to be Northwest Wildlife!
Everyone at the meeting liked the idea and we had fun throwing
ideas around.
1. Fundraising report:
· The $500 made at Polly Halpern’s garage sale (10/12/02)
was matched by two separate corporate donations.
· The Dive-In-Movie-Musical (12/11 & 12/18/02), organized
by Thomas Hargrave, made about $250 for the playground.
· A teenager offered to sell T-shirts and hand out
flyers at Temple Beth Am (1/5/03); she made $81 in one morning!
2. Playground design discussion:
· We came up with a vision of the playground having
the feel of a natural space (like an extension of the Meadowbrook
Pond across 35th). We agreed on a theme of Northwest Wildlife
for design elements and artistic touches at the playground.
We plan to include native plantings, nesting boxes, and the
creek motif in the design.
· We discussed the attributes of wood chips vs. sand
surfacing, and wood vs. metal climbing equipment. If metal
equipment is chosen, we would like it to be in colors found
in nature (tan, brown, forest green).
· We developed a first draft of the playground “floorplan”,
including the following large structures: big kids climber,
big and little kids swings, little kids climber, sandbox,
merry-go-round, dome climber, covered picnic table area, meandering
path (resembling a creek).
· We made up a “wish list” including the following
play and design elements: climbing boulders, caves, gateway
to the playground (incorporating the theme), elements for
balancing and spinning, rope climber, area for digging (possibly
in dirt), water source for sandbox, tiles with shapes of animals,
birds, & fish (engraved with names/messages and sold as a
fundraiser).
Please e-mail info@anniesplayground.org
with your comments and ideas!!!
3. Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction:
· The date has been changed to Sat., May 17th.
· The ticket price will be $7.50 per person in advance
($10 at the door), or $20 per family (up to 4 people). A pasta
dinner and side dishes will be provided (thanks to Justin).
· We will be asking everyone’s help in asking local
businesses to donate goods and services for our auction. Additional
information will be sent in a separate e-mail, including a
donation form and informational letter for businesses, and
suggested sites.
