Friends of Annie's Playground (FAP) Meeting
Monday, March 3, 2003
7:00 PM at the Community Center

  1. Playground design
    - Arrangement of play areas (older kids’ climber, tots’ climber, older kids’ swings, tots’ swings, picnic area): Randy will present his revised draft at the meeting on March 20th.
    - Art elements: Amy Lambert (UW Public Art Program) presented some cool design ideas, including animal-shaped mounds surrounding the playground, merry-go-round with a birds-in-flight theme, and picnic-area roof ideas. These and other ideas will be discussed with Randy as the design phase progresses.
    - Wood vs steel climbing structures: We should keep in mind that, because of its central location, the playground may have a graffitti problem. According to Randy, graffitti cannot be cleaned off of wood climbing equipment. Another drawback of wood is that it can take up more space, due to larger diameter posts. So… looks like we’re leaning towards steel equipment.
    - Play equipment wish list (in addition to the climbers and swings): Balance beam, tire swings, dome climber, merry-go-round, teeter totter (in sandbox), monkey bars, climbing wall, caves.
    - Several folks expressed the desire to keep the big tires somewhere near the playground.

  2. Terry Vogel, Outreach Director at nearby Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, is planning a summer Walk/Fun Run and Bar-B-Que to benefit the playground (July 12th). There will also be an article about Annie’s Playground in the church’s first newsletter. Thank you Terry, for your active support!

  3. Auction – Sat. May 17th, 5:00 – 9:00
    - Auction catalog (see attached list): WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP to get great auction items. Think about the unused items you have that someone else might want to bid on (new cookware, clothing, toys, themed baskets,
etc.), people you know who can provide a valuable service (parties, cooking, baking, artwork, massages, etc.), travel connections, etc. PLEASE contact Lauren with your ideas (587-6994)! An updated info flyer/pledge form is also attached for your use.
    - Tickets: Thanks so much to Dean and Kim for printing up really great tickets! Ticket packets were distributed to FAP members to sell to friends, family, and coworkers. If you want to attend the auction, call Lauren or reply to this e-mail right away (round table tickets are going fast!). Kids are welcome -- they can sit w/ their parents or at separate tables.
    - Auction schedule: Registration (5:00), Silent auctions (5:00-6:30), Dinner (pastas/sauces, caesar salad, breadsticks) and dessert auction (6:45-7:45), Live auction (8:00).
    - Kids’ activities: Possibly including a kids’ auction.
    - Advertising: FAP members have been getting the word out, but we NEED YOUR HELP! Tell all your friends about this fun (and affordable) auction!
