Friends of Annie's Playground (FAP) Meeting
Monday, April 7, 2003

7:00 PM at the Community Center

  1. Time pledges: Your pledge to help out (organizing work party volunteers, labor, etc.) in Spring 2004 can be matched by $12 per hour by the NMF. If you haven’t pledged time yet, please contact Lauren at 587-6994 or by emailing info@anniesplayground.org (over 450 hours have been pledged so far, w/ a goal of ~700 hours needed for construction).
  2. Playground design: Park’s architect Randy Robinson presented his nearly complete playground plan! The general objectives were to provide: 1) maximum play and socializing opportunities for kids of a broad range of ages, and 2) areas for quiet activities and relaxation. The plan includes the following elements (subject to change):
    • Large, older kids’ climbing structure (5-12 yr olds)*
    • 6 regular belt swings and 2 ADA-accessible (seat) swings
    • Large Galaxy climber (for older kids)
    • Whirl (merry-go-round)
    • Small, tots’ climbing structure (1-5 yr olds)
    • Sandbox with adjacent Exploration area (and seating)
    • 2-4 tot swings
    • Covered Picnic table area
    • Benches
    * The exact climbers haven’t been selected yet. Three different playground equipment manufacturers are being sent requests for possible climber designs and cost estimates. The design and colors will be selected at the Public Meeting on April 23rd (7 pm, Meadowbrook Comm. Center, upstairs at the Family Center). Comments? Reply to this e-mail or contact Randy at 386-7035 or randy.robinson@seattle.gov.
